| Professor Habibur Rahman, a noted educationist and vice-chancellor of Metropolitan University, Sylhet died of cardiac attack on Thursday, 27th July, 2006. He was 64. He was born on January 1, 1942 at Chanpur in Nabiganj upazila of Habiganj . He obtained his master’s degree in social science from Dhaka University in 1964 and stood first class first. He obtained a post graduate degree in Community Development and Youth Studies from Edinburgh University in 1968. He started his career as a lecturer of the Rajshahi University’s Social Works Department in 1964 and joined as chief of the Social Works Department at Shahjalal University of Science & Technology in 1992. He was appointed as vice-chancellor of the university in 1997 and served in that post for four years. He later joined Sylhet Metropolitan University as VC and served till the last day of his life. Professor Rahman is survived by his wife, four sons and one daughter. |
